Definition

Bastinado is a form of foot whipping that is both a form of BDSM play and is also used as a punishment method. The feet of a person are beat with a rod, stick, cane, belt, or whip, causing extreme pain. Because the foot has so many nerve sensors, the pain is excruciating, but oddly enough leaves little in the way of marks or scars. If wounds are created during the process, they take an extremely long time to heal, as the foot is a place where moisture gathers, making it very difficult to move around on them. It is still used as a form of corporal punishment in some places in the Middle East.

Many who practice BDSM use this form of discipline on their subordinates, humiliating them when they have done a specific wrong. It isn’t used often, however, as the immobilization of the subordinate makes it extremely difficult to carryout any other orders given.
