[edit] Definition
The act of being tied up or restrained for sexual gratification. This is known as a sexual act in most cases. The six categories of bondage are: Bondage that pulls the parts of the body together, bondage that spreads the parts of the body apart, bondage that ties the body down to another object, bondage that suspends the body from another object, bondage that restricts normal movement, and bondage that wraps the whole body or a part of it in bindings such as cloth or plastic. Some like physical bondage, where they feel the need to be physically restrained. Others are happy with spiritual bondage, where often really loose restraints or none at all are needed to “bind” the submissive.
[edit] Safety Concerns
The credo of doms/subs in the community is Safe, Sane, and Consensual. This means that a bondage session is conducted in a safe manner, with sane individuals, whom have both consented to this kind of play. Use of a safeword can be a key thing to remember. A safeword is a word chosen by the sub and the dom that indicates play needs to stop. It should be respected as a firm “no”, unless specified otherwise. One should never leave a person who is bound alone for an extended period of time. One should avoid sexual positions that could bring on postural asphyxia. The position of the sub should be changed at least once an hour to prevent problems with the circulatory system. Being able to quickly release the submissive from any position will ensure that safety is met. When using ball gags or hoods, special attention should be given to make sure that there is no way the submissive can asphyxiate. Alcohol and drugs should NEVER be included in this type of play, considering that they make pain more bearable that normally would damage a person and a dominant can easily lose the composure that keeps things safe in a scene. Be sure to check in with your sub during a session to ensure that they are comfortable and “content”. Having food nearby can be useful just in case a sub faints. Cutting tools are key just in case restraints will not come off and become a hazard. Padlocks with similar keylocks will make them more easily removable. Self-bondage is not recommended considering that if something goes wrong and you can’t access a telephone, then you could die. One person should be in charge of keeping track of whatever time constraints the session has placed on it. The dominant should have some understanding of human anatomy and practice in the bondage arts. It is also recommended that a dominant play the role of a sub when learning domination so that they can understand what the submissive is feeling and when. The feelings of a submissive should be taken into consideration at all times, since they are placing such a great deal of trust in the chosen dom. Rules and regulations of the scene should be discussed prior to the session.
