Definition
A catsuit is a single piece garment that fits very tightly to the skin. They can be worn by both men and women, but it is usually the women who wear them especially when in a sexual setting. Catsuits aren't really ever associated with cats, or feline activity, even though their beginnings find ties to them. Catsuits cover the entire body including the arms, but stop at the feet. Usually socks are worn to complete the look of the outfit (especially if black). Appealing because of their sleek and slender appearance, catsuits are used in many fetish arenas.
Catsuits can be made out of several different materials. Catsuits are made from leather, cloth, latex, and even rubber. Most often, in order to accentuate the curves on a woman's body, they are made out of shiny material which enhances the look.
Catsuits also resemble bodysuits that are worn by surfers around the world. The bodysuits help the surfer's streamlining in the water, much like the catsuits do with the eyes.

History
Catsuits date back to the 1940's, and in 1959, were made even more popular with the invention of spandex. They were again made very popular with the 1960's hit show, Batman, when they were worn by Julie Newmar.
