Definition
The attraction (sexually) to objects or parts of the body that aren’t inherently sexual. When dealing with the body or body parts, the part in question holds a higher importance over the owner. Sexual fetishism can be a sort of sexual enhancement, adding a new spice to a vanilla sex life. Common fetishes include foot fetish, smoking, BDSM lifestyles, spanking, and many others. The degree of fetish play in which one engages can vary from light dabbling (enjoying a spanking once in a while) to heavy lifestylers who play out their fetishisms in daily life and not just in the bedroom.
History
Sexual fetishism has existed for ages, but it was around the 18th century that philosophers first started looking at fetishism in or relating towards religion. In the 20th century, Sigmund Freud speculated that sexual fetishism was a response to some earlier trauma in people’s lives, citing the trauma as being the cause of the fetishism.
