Definition

A flogger is a whip that has multiple strands of leather, cord, horsehair, or rubber, depending. The handle is stiff, while the top is usually softer. Many floggers are created to provide differing levels of pain, from gentle to quite painful, depending on the material and width of the strands. Most floggers are designed to be used on the torso and thighs, though it is also possible to buy smaller floggers designed for nipple and male genitorture.

The flogger is derived from the cat o' nine tails, a punishment device in common use throughout history prior to the 20th century.

History

The history of flogging comes from many places in human civilization. It was mainly used as a form of disciplinary action, but became a fetish during the late 18th century. The Marquis De Sade helped to make this very popular, writing about his exploits in the erotic manuals he put out towards the end of his life.
