Definition
Hobble skirts are a very popular fetish fashion and are worn throughout the kink community. The skirt fits normally around the waist, but is hemmed so tight that it impedes a person’s stride. Entire dresses can be made with this idea in mind and are aptly called Hobble Dresses. The term “hobble” refers to the way the skirts essentially handicap the wearer by making it difficult to walk. Modern versions of the skirt often run to the ankle and are very narrow all the way down. The tight and long silhouette it creates makes it a very popular eveningwear commodity, and is another example of how fetish wear has crossed over into the mainstream.
History
The first hobble skirts made their debut in the 1880s and were later adapted into a more modern design by the 1910s. Hobble skirts became a fetish fashion as early as the 1950s, when they were put on display by John Wilke’s Bizarre.
