[edit] Definition
Masochism is the pleasure that comes from receiving pain, suffering or humiliation. A person who enjoys these acts is known as a masochist. Masochists will most often have a partner who is a sadist; this relationship is known as sadomasochism. Masochists take pleasure in being restrained through the use of handcuffs, cages, chains, and ropes. In addition they often receive punishment through paddling, spanking, whipping, burning, beating, electrical shocks, cutting and, in some extreme cases, rape and mutilation. Masochistic behavior may also occur through role-playing fantasies. This may be a gentler and more commonly accepted form of masochism.
[edit] Safety Concerns
Masochism can be a serious sexual disorder. In extreme cases a masochist may inflict pain or suffering on him or herself through self-mutilation, cutting or burning.
