Spitting is seen as the most degrading act by mainstream society, which is why it is often used in domination scenarios. As the ultimate insult, spitting is used to tear down and degrade a submissive. In many boot worship scenes spit is used as way to clean the filth of a dominant’s shoe. Spitting is so common among femdoms and their slaves that entire sites are dedicated to the act of dominant female spitting. While spitting can be done to any part of the body it is most degrading and humiliating when done to the face.
In adult films spitting is used as a form of lubrication. This is the least degrading and most acceptable use of spitting and is not at all related to the spitting fetishism.

Spitting onto another person’s face is a universal sign of anger, hatred and contempt. It is also possible to transmit infectious diseases through spitting. Atypical pneumonia can be transmitted through spitting as well as tuberculosis.

History
Spitting hasn’t always been seen as a taboo act. Back in the Middle Ages frequent spitting was part of everyday life and it was thought ill mannered to suck back saliva to avoid spitting. It wasn’t until the early 1700’s that spitting had become something that should be concealed and by 1859 many viewed spitting as vulgar especially in mixed company.
Psychological Context
It is believed by many that spitting is a territorial act handed down from past genes. A theory to support this is the fact that the most common spitters are young males in their prime years, when testosterone levels are at their highest.
