Definition
A spreader bar is a physical restraint device used in BDSM play. Spreader bars can come in a variety of lengths but are most typically two to three feet long. Some spreader bars include extra attachment points along their length for collars, suspension play, or as anchoring points for ropes or chains.
In most BDSM scenes spreader bars are used to place the person in a spread eagle position. The spreader bar worn on the wrists allows access to the torso while the one worn at the ankles allows free access to the genitals as well as prevents walking.
Safety Concerns
While the majority of spreader bars are made of metal it is important to note that not all spreader bars are intended to support the weight of a person.
