Definition
Sub-space is the state of mind a submissive enters during a BDSM session. Different types of BDSM scenes result in strong physical responses; the sub-space allows a submissive to mentally separate themselves from their environment as they process the experience. The level of subspace reached varies from person to person as does the amount of care needed to come out of it. Level of experience can also be a factor in the depth of sub-space reached. Sub-space is sometimes referred to as “headspace,” “flying,” or “floating.” Scientifically it is a hypnotic state reached by the release of endorphins into the bloodstream.
Safety Concerns
The reaction to reaching subspace varies on the individual. A new submissive should always be watched to make sure he doesn’t harm himself during this state. Sub-space can be a wonderful experience but it can also be a terrifying one, especially for those who have never felt anything like it before.
